Drag Spring

Drag Spring

Description

The Drag Spring is designed to resists turning in the hole when the drill string is rotated. This resistance transmits torque to power the Inflate Pump.

The Drag Spring consists of a steel body and four-leaf springs that expand to about 15 inches (381 mm) on surface and can be compressed to the size of the hole diameter. Rotation of the drill string will cause the springs to resist rotation by digging into the formation. This creates the force necessary to anchor the lower part of the drill string and allow torque to be transmitted to the Inflate Pump.
