Fail Safe Head

Description

The Fail Safe Head provides a means for safely connecting the flow from the drill pipe into the flow hose. It consists of a tool joint pin to connect with the drill pipe, a drop bar pin, a ball valve which can act as a master valve, and bearings to allow the drill pipe to rotate without twisting the flow lines.

At the top of the tool there is a valve plunger that closes off and opens the well flow. The plunger is held in the closed position by a spring. To move the plunger to the open position, hydraulic pressure is used to counteract the spring. Allowing for the well to be closed quickly and safely from a remote location by bleeding off the hydraulic pressure, allowing the spring to close the plunger.
