Quality Control Specialist

Northstar is seeking a Quality Control Specialist for full-time and part-time work (with flexible hours options) in our Calgary facility.     
 
As part of the Quality Control department, the successful candidate will work with the Supply Chain Manager as well as departmental supervisors to control the flow of parts requiring inspection and to ensure that non-conforming parts are identified, controlled, and dispositioned.  This position will also be responsible for the assembly, testing, and handling of assemblies and components.   
 
The QC portion of the role will require careful measurement and record-keeping, ensuring standards are consistent. Where a discrepancy exists, the QC role will escalate to identify corrective action and ensure that the non-conformance is managed within recommended timelines.  The assembly portion of the role is responsible for taking QC-approved items and building finished tools. The assembly role will work within the assembly workflow to ensure that a certified Northstar product is completed to the standards defined. 
 
The successful candidate will have experience in the following: 
  • Two years of Quality Inspection of machined parts 
  • Blueprint reading and interpretation of manufacturing drawings 
  • Parts inspection using calipers, micrometers, and other measuring tools 
  • Documentation management 
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and organizational skills 
  • Ability to work under Northstar safety standards 
  • Ability to lift 50lbs

Supply Chain Manager

Northstar Downhole Specialists is looking for a versatile and professional Supply Chain Manager to join our team and report directly to the Vice President.   The Supply Chain Manager is responsible for all outstanding non-service purchase orders in the system and works with engineering, sales, and operations to ensure assets are properly allocated and managed to ensure customer satisfaction and efficient use of capital. The Supply Chain Manager is expected to develop vender relationships and ensure standards are met within budget.  Northstar is an ISO9001:2015 manufacturer and service company and will be qualifying for API Q1.  We demand the highest quality standards and maintain full traceability from design through the service life of the equipment at the individual part level.  Continuous quality and lean improvement of Supply Chain processes is critical to Northstar’s success and an expectation of the Supply Chain Manager.  This role also includes being responsible for all logistics and inventory for all assets not allocated to a regional market. This includes in transit inventory. It is key that this role manage logistics where time and budget are of the essence. Complete visibility to WIP, In-Transit, and non-regional assets critical.

Responsibilities and deliverables include:

  • On time delivery of conforming product
  • Global asset and inventory management
  • Vendor management: Supplier assessments and reviews
  • Cost and delivery estimates for Northstar products and new product development prototypes
  • Continuous improvement of the quality management system
  • Document quality issues (NCRs) and performance measures (KPIs) for management review meetings
  • Execute product recalls and upgrades
  • Creation and preparation of correspondence, documents, reports and/or presentations both internally and to clients
  • Create and maintain contracts to ensure the company’s contract rates, terms & conditions are reflected
  • Visibility of all inventory (WIP, In Transit, Engineering)
  • Visibility of all POs outstanding and timing
  • Efficient movement of equipment and consumables resupply to international field locations while following current rules and regulations for transport, import and export
  • Ensure contract requests strictly adhere to the contract submission requirement process
  • Pursue safety above all else by ensuring adherence to procedures and taking individual responsibility for safety in the workplace

 

Qualifications and skills

  • Five+ years experience in a supply chain management or contract/data administration role
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in business or supply chain management or other business major
  • Strong administration background – ideally with previous exposure to quality (or document control) and systems in the Mechanical Engineering industry and Oil & Gas industry
  • Good communicator who can liaise effectively with clients and internal team members
  • Understand and develop systems and processes quickly
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and tight deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to execute within specific technical guidelines
  • Strong understanding of accounting process for tracking and reporting
  • Self-starter with good initiative

Northstar Downhole Specialists’ engineering team is looking for a motivated and creative mechanical design engineer to help bring next-generation downhole products and solutions to market.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Conceptual mechanical and electromechanical design of downhole tools such as packers, bridge plugs, valves, samplers, and telemetry systems
  • Detailed design and analysis including mechanical CAD, finite element analysis (FEA), and preparing deliverables including design reports, calculations, drawings and schematics, product specifications and support documentation
  • Supplier liaison, coordinating manufacturing
  • Test planning, hands-on testing, and commissioning of prototypes
  • Job planning and support for operations team, for both new and legacy products

 

Requirements:

  • APEGA-recognized bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • Eligible for APEGA (Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta) professional licensure
  • Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Able to lift 20 lbs

 

Preferred skills:

  • 1-5 years’ experience designing complex mechanical or electromechanical systems
  • Experience designing, operating or maintaining downhole tools
  • Test planning and experimental design
  • Competence with CAD and FEA tools (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Broad knowledge of materials selection and materials science
